Good Parts Packs Pt. 1

I'll be reviewing seeveral sets over their eligibility to be deemed as good parts packs for a LEGO city.

Here's one which foots the bill: 8086 Droid Tri-Fighter.

This Star wars set has a ton of 1x2 brick with studs on both sides, 1x1 round bricks in two hues of gray, and most importantly, a lot of dark blue.

here's my copy with my PAB haul to the right.

The dark blue is an asset for CSX.

The gray things with studs all over can make incredible snot contraptions and even pedestrian signals. There are 15.

Black 1x2 with studs on both sides can do good snot work especially in tight areas. It numbers up to 21.

Dark blue cheese, 1x4 tiles, 2x4 tiles, 2x4 wedges, and 1x1 round bricks are great for CSX or FEC.
They number up to 7, 15, 12, 12 tot., and 6. 1x2 plates (6) are also included but I already have 800+ of those, a la PAB in 2007.

For something with parts like this, the cost is good too, 25.00 @ 268 pieces which makes it go to about 9 cents a piece.

3677 Work Train

On Eurobricks:
http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52213

This train will be a very welcome addition to the City line, appealing best to AFOLs though, imho.

Out this fall, it will have one switcher and 3 cars. The switcher no doubt looks classic, and the PF components were designed perfectly.

***Also if you look at the car behind this:

you can see a new cheese wedge at what looks like 45º and 1 brick.
About time considering mocs like the SD70MACs and all. Finally, a clean look can now be achieved. I guess I should do a UP winged SD70M soon.

Maersk Train Video

Found this one online through Eurobricks. Pierre Normadin introduces the set to the fan community. I highly encourage everyone to check it out!

Maersk Train

Probably one of the better train sets LEGO ever came up with recently, the Maersk train will be out this spring. Has one SD40-2, with two intermodal cars and a truck. Perfect for a TFOL, though the containers are kind of out of scale. When I get it, I'll make a fine tuned scale of containers; I advise others to do it as well.

The cost is something to write home.... 119.99!

LEGO Layout

Currently in the process of building a downtown promenade and industrial layout. The buildings will replace old MOCs from 2007-2008 as well as the Café Corner, which I got a little tired of anyway. Completion of the promenade will be by Spring Break.
